Typically if its a DME RAM issue you'll get the fault on the Bank 2 exhaust cam, but other faults are possible. The test plan on ISTA is service functions--->Maintenance--->CBS data correction,vehicle---->Engine oil level, disturbed. You perform the test plan and reset the oil level adaptions."

N62TU - Diagnosis for DME FC 2A90
MODEL
E65, E66 with N62TU from 03/05 up to 06/06
E60, E63, E64 with N62TU from 09/05 up to 06/06
SITUATION
"Service Engine Soon" light is illuminated and fault code 2A90 ("Exhaust camshaft, tooth offset to
crankshaft – currently present") is stored in the DME.
Also, several other faults codes (e.g. 2B64, 2A8B, 2A8F, 2A8A, 2A8E, 2A8D, 2A91) for the intake or
exhaust Vanos units may be found in the DME memory.
In some cases, the customer may complain of engine rough running.
CAUSE
Implausible crankshaft or camshaft sensor signals.
PROCEDURE
1. Follow the DIS/GT1 test plan for FC 2A90.
2. Replace all four camshaft sensors (PN 13 62 7 558 518). For the intake/exhaust camshaft sensors
replacement procedure refer to repair manuals RA12 14 512, RA12 14 513, RA12 14 522, and
RA12 14 526.
3. Replace crankshaft sensor (PN 12 14 7 503 140). For the crankshaft sensor replacement procedure
refer to repair manual RA12 14 521.
4. Clear camshaft/crankshaft sensors adaptation values using DIS/GT1 loaded with CD V47.0, or
higher. Select the following path:
Control Module Functions – DME Motor Electronics
RAM back up
Select "Activate".
